Video Astronomy

using the

Watec WAT 120-N Video Camera

Andrew Thornett

Getting the Watec 120N video camera to work successfully with Windows 7 64 bit operating system.

This impressive low light video camera gives excellent DSO images when used correctly. I obtained one of these but initially found it difficult to get it to work with my laptop. I think this was due to the difficulty in finding a video grabber device which worked successfully with Windows 7.

Eventually I got this to work in April 2015. I used the Logilink Video Grabber, Honestech VHS to DVD 2.0 SE software, and Registax 6, all running on a Dell M6800 laptop with Windows 7 professional 64 bit operating system.

Click here to read about how this was achieved.

I then was able to success photograph the Sun at the RAG science event 18/4/2015 using the Watec - although there are some significant dust spots on the sensor! A blower helped here....
