Success using Watec WAT-120N video camera with Registaxon Windows 7 64 bit for first time

11/4/2015

Andrew Thornett

Apart from my attempt at observing last night, I had a more successful attempt at getting my Watec WAT 120-N video camera to work on my PC. The problem is not with the camera, but rather with finding a video grabber which works with Windows 7 64 bit operating system. Now on my third video grader I have eventually succeeded in finding one where the driver works with Windows 7 64 bit. Yippee! Got that working last night. Grabber from Logilink and bought from ebay for around 11. So I have two other spare grabbers if anyone wants one. They ought to work fine with 32 bit Windows 7 or Windows 8......

The software produces MPEG I files in its VCD setting. It does not produce AVI files. I discovered that these MPEG I files can be loaded easily into Registax 6 as long as I set it to black and white import. End result, for the first time, video successfully obtained from Watec camera, uploaded into Registax and processed. It was only video from my garden but it is a start. Next up - the sky!
