Sketch of Mars

Paul Bertenshaw

Here's another sketch I made of Mars tonight between 21.20 & 22.45. I cheated a bit by using Tippex to highlight the bright areas on the planets rim. After last night I was quite excited at the prospect prior to starting and set the scope etc up as the sun disappeared behind the nearby bushes.

I spent the first 5-10 mins observing Jupiter, but it was very frustrating as there was a lot of hazy cloud about with very brief gaps and even these were hardly clear! Then I spotted Mars which appeared to be in a clearer section of sky, but that changed as soon as I swung the scope round! But I enjoyed the experience even though most of it was spent waiting for the cloud to thin so I could see enough of Mars to continue sketching.
