Hello from Bad Kleinkirchheim, Austria

How did it go last night then - did you get any observing in...? (referring to Summer meeting at RAG 29/7/2016)

As is often the case in the mountains (although we weren't as high up this time in the Southern Tirol), you often get the cloud and rain and thunder(!) roll in later on in the day.

All week (on holiday in Austria) we've had cloudy nights, but last night (of course it being our last night with an early transfer back to Ljubljana airport at 6am - back via the mountain pass rather than the motorway, which is partially blocked due to President Putin visiting Slovenia! Julie translating from 'morning drive time radio', it would appear that the locals aren't too happy with the long queues on their main toll road and are saying he should be using his ruddy helicopter!!!!), it did clear around 11.30pm....

Cygnus was high overhead sitting in a swathe of the Milky Way, chasing Vega and (a much higher than at home), Altair in the tail of the eagle. It would have been even more impressive without the hotel lights as we were situated right on the edge of the town and our room was on the top floor.

At 5.30 this morning the crescent moon was sitting above the valley - taken with the iPhone!

Taken at 5.38 (after my shower!)

Could see both Mars and Saturn (and is it Antares?), riding low down on the horizon (the boat travelled overnight from Lyon towards the Roman town of Arles through some massive locks, which is where we are now) (below):
