First Horsehead Nebula photograph

Ken Critchton

I spent most of last night in the freezing conditions trying to get PHD software to work properly (in the end it was tracking at 0.5" but keeps loosing the star then picking it up again, low signal to noise ratio).

At the end of the evening, I pointed the scope to the Horsehead Nebula and took 3x 2 min exposures to finish off, although i didn’t re-focus the imaging scope from Thursday so the stars are quite bloated and out of focus. Could someone tell me what the greyish area is? I am using an IDAS D1 filter.
