Deep sky objects

9/8/2016

Roger Samworth

While imaging the N. America nebula a few days ago I found it quite difficult to get a focus without stopping down the 50mm lens. After a bit of investigation, I found the lens back-plate had worked loose. So after tightening it and a bit of adjustment I had another go, this time using the full f/1.4 aperture with the UHC filter. An improvement, I think, even if it isn’t quite in Damian & Geoff’s league!

While in wide-angle mode and looking for wide-angle targets, I also imaged M81 and M82, although they were a bit low in the sky.

I then reverted to the SCT for the rest of the images. The 2 Caldwell objects were quite tricky with the Cocoon (C19) in particular needing quite a  lot of work with GIMP.
